A GSS Student's Experience

My time at UCSD as a Global South Studies major was phenomenal to say the least. The interdisciplinary aspect of the department granted me the flexibility to learn from other major departments which attests to the versatility this program has to offer. Varying from Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, and History; the learning objectives are endless. The Global South is more than just a list of countries that are politically seen as 'undeveloped' but rather a complex conceptualization of countries that were impacted by contemporary capitalist globalization. This program allows you to deepen your understanding of history from several perspectives and open your eyes to an array of topics you've never learned before. With this in mind, choosing Global South Studies allowed me to be multifaceted in several major departments and increased my learning ability to understand critical topics. That being said, the professors and directors I have interacted and learned from have made my time at UCSD unforgettable. Now that I am embarking the legal route, I can say that it is with my professors' and peers' guidance that brought me the confidence to apply to law school.
